About Ernst Neufert

Gotthelf indicates that Ernst Neufert studied at the Bauhaus from 1918 to ca. 1921 and that he joined Walter Gropius's architectural firm where he became chief architect in 1924. Sharp indicates that Neufert was an architectural student at the Bauhaus from 1919 to 1920 and that Gropius then hired him at his Atelier in Weimar and promoted him to office manager at his architectural practice in Dessau in 1925. Nerdinger indicates that Neufert assisted Walter Gropius and Carl Fieger with the design of the Bauhaus building in Dessau in 1925 and that he also assisted Gropius with the building project for the Bauhaus masters' houses in Dessau from 1925 to 1926. Sharp indicates that Neufert directed the Bauhaus building projects undertaken by Gropius's firm. Neufert taught at the Bauhaus and he was also hired as a teacher at the Bau-Hochschule in Weimar and eventually became the director of the school where he remained until 1930. From 1930 to 1933 he was head of the architecture department at Itten's private art school in Berlin. Neufert was involved in a number of building projects in Germany until 1960 and wrote several architectural publications from 1934 to 1960....
